In the fall of 2022, I was hired as an independent contractor to re-design Kaiser Permanente's dental website. The previous website's structure and design was outdated, so they needed a designer and a developer to re-structure and re-design it.
I spoke with a representative from Kaiser Permanente to establish what the current issues with the website were. She told me the following:
I worked with representatives from Kaiser Permanente throughout the whole design process. I created low fidelity wireframes to show how the website could be structured, and then worked with them to get assets and approval for the high-fidelity designs. I would have weekly check-ins with the developer, project manager and stakeholders. This process lasted just about two months - it was a quick turn around as the client wanted the website ready by the new year. I used Adobe XD to make these designs, as requested by the developer.
I created ten different page designs - here are a couple of the pages below.
I received great feedback on the designs, which were then implemented by a developer. Users of the updated website appreciated the new ‘Compare Our Plans’ feature, as there was previously no central location to compare insurance plans. Before, users had to refer to PDFs and compare the plans themselves, rather than having all the information in one place. This project was a valuable experience, allowing me to work as a solo designer on a small team. I enjoyed the ownership I had and the process of collaborating directly with a client to create the best version of the website they needed.
