Klaus, a new YC-backed company that builds an OpenClaw personal assistant, needed a logo and brand materials. They reached out to me to create a couple logos.
For this project, I used Adobe Illustrator. Before designing, I researched AI company logos and noticed that many featured hexagonal and/or highly symmetrical designs. I found that the most memorable logos were abstract and uniquely tied to the company. I also noticed that many AI companies use single-letter logos, often adding a unique twist to make them recognizable and distinct.
The company's orginal name was Bits, so I started out creating logos based on that title.
I explored a few different approaches in the initial design phase, sketching logos across two groups. The first group consisted of single-letter logos. While these designs were interesting and easily scalable, they didn’t stand out much from the crowd and felt too basic for a company aiming to be on the cutting edge of AI technology.

The second group of designs were abstract logos. I wanted to create something that stood out from the existing hexagon-heavy AI logos that are currently dominating AI design. I explored a lot of asymmetrical designs, and landed on the abstract design below:

I presented both logos to the stakeholders, and they agreed that the abstract logo was the right direction. They also wanted to incorporate elements from one of the single-letter logos into the Bits branding. Using one of the letters in the horizontal logo would make the brand more distinctive. They also requested that I create a color palette for the logo and company name, and I landed on a monochromatic dark blue palette.
I went back to Illustrator and created a set of brand materials for Bits. This included the Bits favicon, horizontal logo, and more. A few examples of the branding materials are below:
After the company name changed to Klaus, I updated the horizontal logo to match their new name.
